☠️6. Character Permadeath / Character Kill Policy
Most deaths on BSRP are non-permanent. Your character was gravely injured, rescued, and wakes up in a clinic or hospital--often with fuzzy memories and lasting wounds. People survive here. But they carry scars.
However, in rare cases, a death may be permanent--a Character Kill (CK)--where a character's arc ends for good. This section outlines when, how, and why a CK occurs--and how to request or process one fairly.
6.1 What Counts as a Character Kill
A Character Kill (CK) is the intentional, narrative-driven end of a character's life. It is not the result of a shootout, accident, or random death. A valid CK comes from storytelling, not misfortune or skill-issue.
A Character Kill may occur under the following conditions:
A staff-approved CK request (required for all CKs of other players). This portion of the policy is required for all listed examples below as well.
An execution scene with high narrative weight
A long-standing conflict with ideological, emotional, or political depth
A betrayal, punishment, or revenge arc built over time.
A mutual agreement between players to end a storyline together
A staff-mandated CK following repeated or extreme No Value for Life (NVL) behavior
Characters who consistently show no fear, ignore danger, or treat life as disposable may be forcibly CK'd by staff.
CKs are rare. They are serious. They exist to serve the story, not to settle scores.
6.2 How to Request a CK
BSRP Senior Staff must respond to your CK request within 48 hours of receiving all required information.
Responses may include:
Approved - You'll receive guidance on time frame to complete, caveats, or execution
Denied - With a clear explanation
Deferred - Pending further context or a second review (within an additional 24 hours)
If no response is issued within 48 hours, the ticket will be escalated internally for resolution.
6.3 Player Collaboration is Always Encouraged
You may CK your own character at any time. No staff permission is needed to end your own arc--but you must submit a ticket so the CK can be logged.
We also encourage mutual CK agreements between players. If both parties agree on a powerful ending, staff will almost always approve--and may help facilitate the scene. We also respect shock-factor roleplay in these cases. Coordinated storytelling is great, but surprise endings are valid too.
6.4 After a CK is Approved and Acted On
Once a CK takes place, you must:
Submit evidence (recordings) of the scene before, during, and after the CK
Upload it in the same CK request ticket or in a follow-up ticket
Staff will review for RP quality and log the CK in our records
If your character is CK'd:
There is no appeal for approved Character Kills
You must create a new character with a new name and personality
Your new character cannot retain knowledge, items, or ties to your previous character
You may not rejoin your old group or allies for 30 days, unless otherwise approved via ticket
Any attempt to use a "new" character for revenge, continuation, or silent infiltration of old arcs may result in administrative action.
6.5 Evading CK Consequences
If your character is approved for CK and you attempt to avoid it by:
Avoiding the server to stall out consequences
Using alternate characters or mechanics to sidestep the death
Rejoining the same group with the same goals under a new name
You may face:
Temporary or permanent bans
A back-end character wipe
Forced removal from storylines or server activities
This policy protects story continuity, community trust, and the weight of consequence.
